Psychological Depression and Its Relationship with Academic Achievement in the Practical Education Course Among Female Students at the Asmariya University College of Education in Zliten

This research aims to identify the level of psychological depression and examine the relationship between psychological depression and academic achievement in the Practical Education course among a sample of female students at the Asmariya University College of Education in Zliten. The study also seeks to explore whether there is a statistically significant relationship between depression levels and the variables of age, marital status, academic department, and the Practical Education course grade. The research questions are as follows:
To achieve the objectives of this study, the researcher followed a descriptive analytical approach, as this methodology allows for the accurate identification of facts related to the research topic. The study population consisted of female students enrolled in the Practical Education course for the Spring semester of 2025 at the Asmariya University College of Education in all academic departments, with a total of 91 students. The research sample included 44 students. After reviewing the relevant previous studies, the researcher relied on the Beck Depression Inventory, which is standardized and ready for use, and also used the academic achievement level in the Practical Education course based on the records from the College’s study and examination office.
The findings of the study revealed the following:
There is a prevalence of psychological depression among the students, with most students experiencing severe depression reported very severe depression. The study also found that the level of depression is not significantly related to age, marital status, academic department, or the grade in the Practical Education course.
