The spatial distribution of healthcare services is considered one of the most significant indicators reflecting the level of urban development and the extent of governmental commitment to meeting the needs of populations across different geographical areas. Geographical literature indicates that imbalances in this distribution lead to what is known as the “service gap,” which refers to the actual distance between the location where a service is provided and the location where the target population resides. This issue assumes particular importance in mountainous and rugged regions, where geographical constraints interact with administrative planning factors to produce unequal patterns of access to essential healthcare services.
