This study examines motion verbs in the poem “Dialogue with al-Shabbi on the Will to Life” by the poet Abdul Mawla al-Baghdadi, within a theoretical framework based on semantic field theory and context theory, using a descriptive-analytical method. It aims to show the effect of motion verbs on the poetic context, highlight their meanings, and collect and classify them according to their semantic fields. The motion verbs in the poem are divided into two main fields: verbs of transitional movement, including directional, heavy, strong, slow, and random movement; and verbs of positional movement, including strong and weak positional movement. The main findings are that transitional verbs occur more frequently, reflecting a spirit of rebellion, rejection of reality, and aspiration for a new reality; and that the poet employs motion verbs figuratively, giving the poem a symbolic and imaginative dimension, intensifying meanings, and revealing the linguistic richness of classical Libyan poetry.
