This study aims to explore the relationship between participation in team sports activities and emotional intelligence levels among university students. A descriptive-analytical approach was used with a sample of 200 male and female students from Bani Walid University. The study employed an emotional intelligence scale comprising five main dimensions (self-awareness, emotional regulation, intrinsic motivation, empathy, and social skills), along with a sports participation questionnaire to determine the extent of student involvement in team activities.
The results showed that 65% of the sample regularly participate in team sports activities, with football being the most popular activity. The results also indicated that the average overall emotional intelligence score among participants was significantly higher than among non-participants, with statistically significant differences in most dimensions, particularly empathy and social skills. However, no significant differences were found in the self-awareness dimension.
The study concluded that participation in team sports activities is a significant factor in enhancing emotional intelligence among university students, highlighting the importance of integrating these activities into university programs as an educational and psychological tool to support personal and social development.
